I recently spent a few days in Krakow, Poland. The trip was very good and we did a lot of the usual touristy things which was amazing, but to be honest the thing I was most excited for was the gluten free food. I’d heard of a few gluten free bakeries and restaurants and I was determined to try them all.
Well I didn’t. But I tried a few. So here’s my review.
Pasta Bar – this place did pasta and pizza but it only had gluten free pasta (minus 1 point). I ordered the gluten free spaghetti bolognese (notice how the menu said spaghetti). I also ordered a strawberry mojito which was a solid 9/10 would order again. But back to the food. When it arrived, I was surprised to find not spaghetti, but penne. A disappointing show from Pasta Bar. However, it was pretty nice. So overall I’d give Pasta Bar a 6.5/10.
Cakester – this was a gluten free bakery that I’d heard good things about. So we got the brownie and this chocolate mouse berry cake thing too. The brownie was practically inedible. I don’t know what was in that thing but it was not a brownie. Stay far away unless you enjoy disappointment. The other chocolate berry thing was nice until I got about 5 spoonful’s in and hated it. Also I asked for a cup of tea and they had all these weird fruity teas but no breakfast tea. Like what is that about. So overall Cakester deserves a 3/10.
Fit Cake – this place did gluten free donuts and cakes. It was also dairy free, soy free, vegan, and keto. And boy could you tell. I got a donut and it was actually nice! Finally successful! It didn’t really have the consistency of a donut though but I just pretended. We got this chocolate cake with blueberry icing too and it wasn’t that nice, too much blueberry. But overall I would give Fit Cake a 5.5/10 – I’m sure it’s better earlier on in the day when they have more options.
Pancake House – found this on the Find Me Gluten Free app. Expectations were low after Cakester and Fit Cake but I just wanted a fat pancake stack. It was the best gluten free pancakes I have ever tasted. They did pancake stacks and crepes which is amazing too. (They also do non-gluten free pancakes, crepes and waffles) It was no feeble attempt at a stack like they do over here in Northern Ireland, it had 5 pancakes with many rashers of bacon and a fried egg on top and plenty of maple syrup. I will think about this place until the day I die. Therefore, Pancake House receives a 9.5/10. The deduction is due to the lack of background music, it was kinda awkward.
Well there’s my review on the main places I found gluten free food in Krakow. We also went to the Hard Rock Cafe which was fun and the food was good (bit of a dry bun on the gluten free burger though). Overall, Krakow was really fun and the range of gluten free food made me very happy.
