Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth! ~ Psalm 46 v10
Life is so fast-paced. It’s difficult to find time to just stop and “be still”. Even when we’re taking time to relax, there’s usually something on your mind that’s keeping you from getting the mental rest that you need.
This verse is a reminder that God is in control, even in those moments when you feel like your mind can’t rest or you’re so busy that you can’t get a minute to unwind. He is the God of all. We can be still with the knowledge that our God is a good God.
The song “Be still my soul” by Kari Jobe has been a real encouragement to me when I feel like I have too many thoughts to process at once.
The line that strikes me the most is the first:
This line is so simple, and yet it captures what we all need to hear when the burden on your shoulders is too much; the Lord is on your side. Even if you feel like you’ve failed Him or you haven’t honoured Him in the way that you want to, He will always be on your side. The Lord is our shield and our comforter.
So in this truth, we can be still; we can receive peace beyond understanding. As Jesus commanded the waves during the storm “Peace, be still”, so He commands the same for us.
