So as I said last week, I went on a skiing trip for the first time. It was so so fun and I really enjoyed it and I would recommend it to everyone. However, as always, I did embarrass myself a few times. So here’s a run down of my most embarrassing moments as a professional skier.
I would also like to preface this with the claim that I can actually ski, albeit at a beginner level, because these embarrassing moments will definitely make it look like I spent the entire time on the ground. Can’t have my reputation being tarnished.
- Me being the first person in our ski school to fall over. This moment was about a 3/10 on the embarrassing scale because I had already convinced myself that this would happen so I was prepared. It wasn’t the snowiest week in Austria so the beginner slope that we were on had grass around it. I slid straight off the snow onto the grass and promptly fell on my ass. Quite funny though.
- Falling at the bottom of the kids’ ski lift. All I had to do was hold on but unfortunately I once again fell on my ass. 5/10 for embarrassment.
- Falling at the top of the kids’ ski lift. I don’t know how the kids did it. Almost every time I went on this particular lift, I went backwards at the top of it. The worst time was when I tried to get off at the top and ended up sliding backwards and falling over, only to be hit in the back by my boyfriend who was behind me. It really wasn’t his fault that they didn’t turn off the lift but I still managed to get offended. Probably 7/10 embarrassing.
- Skiing straight past my whole ski school because I couldn’t slow down. This happened many a time. They would be stopped on the slope just waiting on people to catch up and I would sail straight down past them, not to show off, just because I couldn’t stop quickly. Roughly a 4/10 on the embarrassing scale.
- The many times I fell at the top of the tow lift. These got increasingly more embarrassing as I’d had plenty of practice and still managed to fall. I’d say a 7/10 for embarrassing because they stopped the lift when I fell so everyone just watched me scramble to get up.
- My first time on the chair lift. I was on with 3 other beginners. Our first mistake. Our second mistake was overthinking how to get off. We had been told that all we needed to do was stand up. Well I’m not sure what happened but 2 of us ended up in a heap at the top while another was still on the chair lift about 5 feet in the air because she didn’t want to ski over us who were on the ground. I laughed so hard at this. The lift was stopped for so long because we took so long to move away from it. probably about an 8/10 on the embarrassing scale but it was actually just so funny.
- My most embarrassing moment has got to be the time I fell over on the slopes, which was fine, but a lovely woman stopped to help me up and I couldn’t get up. She was honestly there for what felt like five minutes. In fact, she managed to pull me up at one point but then I fell to the other side. I appreciated her persistence. Definitely the moment I cringe at most though.
- The last day of skiing was a real struggle. I lost all energy and strength so I just kept falling the whole way down the slope. I actually managed to go off-piste because I just didn’t think about it and then I got stuck and eventually fell over. My boyfriend took several photos/videos of me falling over on the last day in which, instead of helping me, he simply zoomed in on my face. Made for some very funny footage. It wasn’t that embarrassing though but it was a funny day.
Overall, skiing was so fun, despite my many embarrassing moments. The falls weren’t very sore by the way, that’s why they’re funny, but somehow I did manage to sprain my wrist at some unknown point which actually is probably the most embarrassing thing I did because now I have a stupid-looking wrist splint on. 10/10 for embarrassment.
